Kraftsman Journey
In 1966 pottery became part of my life. I was a music major
at Central Washington University, where I took an intro pottery
class from the late Richard Fairbanks. That one class led
to a passion that only music had come close to. Other courses
followed and under the tutelage, of Fairbanks, I learned the
craft of pottery and thus began the inner journey. After leaving
college, I settled in one of the most isolated communities
in the North Cascades the village of Steheikin. In this surrounding
of majestic mountain peaks I set up my first pottery studio.

Several years later, I moved to Winthrop WA and set up my
second studio, making small jugs for Sun Mountain Lodge. In
1974 my studio burned down( a non-pottery related fire)the
spirits had spoken through the wind and fire. That event changed
my life for years.
My wife and I spent the next 11 years returning
an abandoned 280 acre homestead into a working ranch. We raised
our children, ran a cross- country ski business and started
a Montessori School. In 1985, we moved to Bellingham.
My life long interest in eastern religion,
especially Tibetan Buddhism greatly influences my work. My
lotus fountains are designed to soothe and inspire and enhance
meditation. Other pieces bring a sense of restfulness and
spirituality into both indoor and outdoor surroundings.
A new line of pottery that I have been doing
of late reflects the unique location and marine environment
of Bellingham where I live and work. I now have fish related
items for the home table and decor.
