Before becoming an artist, Carrie enjoyed work as a river
and ocean guide, snowboard instructor, volunteer coordinator,
bartender, and retail manager. She currently resides in the
foothills of Mt. Baker in Washington State with her boyfriend,
dog and cat, where she maintains a home studio and a small
garden. The ocean, rivers and mountains surrounding her are
a constant source of inspiration. Carrie's appreciation of
nature, history and geometry is reflected in each handcrafted
piece of Inspired Earth Ceramics.
Ms. Keenan states:
To make a pot is to touch the earth an experience an elemental
transformation of mud and fire to stone, and also ties the
self to a reality that transcends the actual process. We
are more than ourselves - we are part of a greater whole,
a long cycle of rebirth and passing. What greater view can
we have than that which is all around us? The world is a
wellspring and a treasure awaiting us.
The creation of a beautiful pot speaks to this connection,
whether you are maker or user. In our times it is true that
we are able to acquire objects that fulfill their functions
more easily and for less money than making them ourselves.
So perhaps in a sense then, the making of pots is essentially
unnecessary...but therein lays the importance of this craft!
It can invigorate the core of the self and remind humanity
of our roots.
I wish to elevate this craft to a high and artistic level,
to go beyond the idea of "useful pot" to vessels that are
not only utilized, but cherished, and an inspiration to
their holder. I draw my ideas from the rich earth that surrounds
us, and I hope to share in the celebration of life through
my work.
