Pete Dorman started serious landscape photography in 1998. He attributes this to his wife Cass, who introduced him to hiking, and to the development of inkjet printing technology. He had been involved with photography in the 1970's as the owner of a rental darkroom and camera store in Seattle (Photo Workshop) but had not practiced photography since that closed in 1981.

Inkjet technology and the ability to work with scanned images and digital files on a computer sparked Pete's latent interest in doing color photography.
